Andrew Leroux can’t believe that Beau Manning has escaped. Now he has to warn everyone involved in his capture, which includes the lovely Miss Elizabeth Boudreaux. When he learns she has headed to her sick aunt he knows he has to go save her. Catching up to her is easy. Convincing her to go home isn’t. The headstrong Miss Boudreaux refuses and only leaves him one option. Kidnap her.
It doesn’t take him long to realize that the safest place for Beth is with Andrew. Now he has to keep her from escaping, protect her from Beau, and maybe make her fall in love with him.

Grinnell needs to find the leader of the Barou to help a friend. What he finds is a beautiful woman he can’t ignore. She knows what happened to the woman he needs to bring back to Emori but she isn’t talking.
Mehanna doesn’t want the sudden company she has. First, it was Lawaya, a Barou master, who realized Mehanna could do magic, she just didn’t know how to control it. Trying to teach her how to control her power Mehanna traps Lawaya in a mirror. Now another stranger comes looking for the woman she trapped in the mirror. How is she supposed to explain this?
She tries to get him to leave but he’s quite tenacious and she ends up showing him the mirror. She thought he’d be mad but he was amazed instead. He didn’t see her power as a problem. He saw it as a gift.
Lawaya needs to be freed from the mirror so Grinnell offers to help her find someone from her race to help her release the Barou master. They just have to help his friend first.
Grinnell and Mehanna get close. A budding romance develops.
Once Lawaya helps with Grinnell’s mission they head out into the galaxy to find out where she came from. They visit one planet and find one of Grinnell’s old friends who leads them to another planet where they do find a member of Mehanna’s race.
She’s been looking for Mehanna to tell her the truth about what happened and to help train her for what she would have to face. She trains Mehanna and as Mehanna uses her magic her memories are free. She realizes she has the most powerful wizard of her race wanting her as his wife. If she wants to be free she has to defeat him.
As her training intensifies so does her feelings for Grinnell. She wants to bond with him but he fears she only wants to bond because of what she has to face. What if she meets someone she can’t live without? Being bonded to him will lock her into a relationship with him for life. It takes some work but she convinces him she wants to spend her life with him. Once they bonded he now has access to her power. He needs to learn how to use it to help her defeat Moorac.
Grinnell also feels he should use technology to help defend his family. When they finally confront Moorac they are as ready as they can be. Everything he throws at them they can counter. He refuses to give up forcing Mehanna and Grinnell to banned together to defeat him.
